by Abhai Sawkar Ever since I've created this site, my intention is to reach out to players from the past and present and give them some support. It's been a while since I last did an interview, and this time it's former Ireland all-rounder Max Sorensen! Persistent shoulder injuries have forced him to retire from international cricket for the time being, but he doesn't seem to have given up hope completely. He had a chance to answer a few quick questions: Me: First of all, congratulations on a nice career in Ireland cricket. What were your most and least favorite parts of your cricketing career? Max: My favorite moments of cricket is all of cricket, I love the game and love every second I am spending out there, whether it's when you're doing well or not so well, it all adds to the experience and you keep learning from it. Me: 2017 has been a breakthrough year for Ireland, you guys won ICC Full Membership. You happened to quit before Ireland would get introduced to the longer format. How do you feel? Max: I feel great, I am absolutely delighted that Ireland got full membership. They deserve it, and it's been a long time coming. It will be tough for the current team, but I wish them well. Me: From what I've read, you've called time on international games. Have you called time on all cricket, and how sure are you that a comeback might happen? Max: I'm confident of a return, just need to get my body right first. Me: What's your message to the up-and-coming Ireland cricketers? Max: To all those young guys coming through, my message is, enjoy the experience each and every day, be grateful for the best job in the world, keep an open mind, and try to always learn and when you find what works, go big or go home! Me: If you could go back and relive one moment in your international career, what would it be and why? Max: There is nothing to relive, I believe everything happens for a reason. Me: Finally, just out of plain curiosity, what are your plans beyond cricket? Max: I am running a gym at the moment, and focusing on my business, trying my best to learn as much as I can. Great encouraging words from the experienced player, and best of luck to team Ireland in their upcoming fixtures. It would be great to see them play and win some Test matches soon. The World Cup Qualifiers are next year, and Ireland have a good chance to stake a claim in one of the last two open spots for the ICC World Cup two years from now. My thanks to Max for his time, and hopefully we can see a comeback sooner or later, fans!
