by Abhai Sawkar 2017 has been a mixed year for USA cricket. After what was a modest campaign in Uganda, the team has just managed to hold on to their spot in the ICC World Cricket League Division 3. The highlight was the win of the annual Auty Cup, a three-game one-day series against Canada, a little over a month ago. It was full of exciting contests, and Team USA just managed to pull through in a low-scoring third game, to successfully wrest the trophy from Canada after 26 years. How's that for making history? One of the outperformers for USA was left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige. He's made his debut for the national team this year, and he's been on a fantastic run. His economical bowling and ability to grab wickets at key stages of the game have made low scores defendable for his team. 7 wickets at 10.57 and an economy rate of 3.22, these are some tremendous figures. Ahead of the US Open T20 league, I decided to ask him for an interview, and here's what he had to say: Me: On a scale of 1-10 (10 = the best), how would you rate your performance and team USA's performance this year and why? Nosthush: I would give it a 6. It's been a mixed year so far, We were very disappointing in Uganda and the results didn't go our way. The losses hurt each one of us and to come back and beat the Canadians in their home turf was very satisfying. Me: This year's Auty Cup win made history. What was going through your mind after you guys won a thrilling game 3? Nosthush: I think we played as a unit and we backed each other all the way through. It was a very special feeling, to show the kind of character and grit that we displayed, truly magical! Me: What were your most favorite/least favorite parts of this year's cricket? What are your resolutions for next year's cricket? Nosthush: I think the Auty Cup series win stands right up there and we have a long way ahead of us. I think Ibrahim [Khaleel] has been really inspirational as a leader and as a player, Coach has been absolutely fantastic and we are headed in the right direction to achieving our goals. Me: If you were to describe your playing style in 3 words, what would it be? Nosthush: Committed, passionate and whole hearted. Me: The US Open T20 league is about to start soon. Definitely a huge step in promoting and publicizing the game here. Share your thoughts/opinions. Nosthush: T20 is always a fun and a demanding format and I am looking forward to playing some good cricket. Me: Finally, can you give a quick shout-out to fans? Nosthush: I would like to thank the fans for their continuous support and encouragement. Thank you for all the love and being part of the special journey. A big thanks to Nosthush for his time! It's a great feeling to see cricket in USA improve in great strides, as a fan from California. First, an away series win against Canada, and now hosting an ICC-sanctioned T20 tournament. We will soon break into Division Two of the ICC World Cricket League, and hopefully T20 status is going to come our way. There's been steady progress, there are plenty of promising players, and cricket is gradually becoming more and more popular. My best wishes are with all the players, looking forward to seeing more cricket and more wins! It won't be soon before long; there's definitely a lot of success in store.
